More times than not, my work evolves with multiple glazes while Fischl paints in a slap-dash manner without refinement (below right), with the effect that his portaits appear unfinished and roughshod upclose yet the look produced attempts to blend colors and form from afar; I think of Freud here (see PP 0032). His large canvases clearly seek a large viewing space such as a gallery or museum and, in my opinion, these group images could become tiring in a normal living area. Finally, a word of note to say that in the backgrounds of these paintings are, at least in one case, copies of paintings by other artist as, for example, the incorporation of Martial Raysse's painting (lower right into that of lower left) from the Stedelijk Museum in amsterdam. And, check out his copy of Bernini's 'Death of the Blessed Ludovica Albertoni'.
